The coalition was formed to change the attitude towards substance use/abuse by providing information and activities and events for youth and adults in the community. It really is amazing what PSY has accomplished in its short life. Some examples include:
Fundraising/Grants
Members 0versee the financial support of the coalition’s efforts, by seeking out and managing local, state, and federal grant funds, as well as contributions and in-kind donations from local businesses, organizations, and individuals.
Marketing/Media/Promotions
Members spread the word about PSY, upcoming events, and ongoing media campaigns though partnership with local media sources.
Education/Information
Members arrange for educational opportunities to be made available to parents, youth, and community members. This is done by bringing guest speakers to the area, community forums, educational campaigns, and other activities to help spread awareness and change attitudes.
Activities
Members work to plan and host activities for people of all ages. These activities are provided at little or no cost whenever possible. This group also collaborates with other community organizations to partner on events throughout the year, as well as help to provide awareness about the many resources and activities available in the community.
Coalitions
Members work with other community coalitions to support one another’s efforts. One ongoing partnership is with the local Just Eliminate Lies (JEL) chapter, Tiger JEL, comprised of local middle and high school students working to prevent tobacco use by youth.
And there are many other community volunteers who assist with PSY’s efforts in other ways, including volunteering their time at events. Now is a great time for you to get involved!
